    16 Days of Activism Launch
    Safe Everywhere Always

Members of UNISONg supported the launch of 16 Days of Activism on Saturday, 25 November. They were part of a ceremony organised by the Wagga Women's Health Centre. Community came together and tied white ribbons with the names written on them of each woman in Australia who has died in 2023 as a result of family and domestic violence.

The choir sang, 'Imagine', 'Truly Brave' and 'Lift My Sister Up'.

Take time to visit the Wollundry Lagoon and read each name, count the ribbons and reflect beside the water. One woman has died every five days in 2023.

Another ribbon was added on Monday - a woman died on Saturday as a result of domestic violence.

Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod Adult Choirs Performance
SINGING FOR WELL-BEING…AND PERFORMING IS OPTIONAL FOR OUR MEMBERS

What an amazing night of support, connectiveness and FUN at the adult choir night at the 2023 Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod on Friday 8 September!
It was also wonderful to listen to the other local choirs perform.
UNISONg is only just over two years old (so many members joined this year!) and our Director, Lyn has been with us a little over 12 months. Performing is optional for choir members. There is no pressure to sing publically but members often find singing in a supportive group helps to take away much of the nervousness that can occur when singing in front of an audience. Some members show support by being part of the audience and that is fabulous.

The main focus on singing at the Eisteddfod was fun and support - of each other, the other choirs and for the Musical Eisteddfod volunteers. UNISONg really demonstrated how fun and inclusive group singing can be. A bonus were the results and comments from the adjudicator.
Two highly commendeds - acapella section and Australian composer/arranger - to start the night…
The adjudicator wrote in her report:
"You sang this with sincerity and meaning" - Sunrise Sunset
"Parts well established. This was fine work" - The Madwriggle

There was so much joy in the two contrasting songs we sang for the Adult Choir Championship at the Wagga Eisteddfod on 8 September and this helped us to achieve 3rd place! 😱
    The adjudicator wrote:
“Your articulation is fabulous. The joy you exude is palpable" - Swing Song
"You capture the driving rhythm and energy so well - I wanted to dance" - I've Got the Music in Me
UNISONg is all about group singing bringing joy and connection so we nailed that last night!
Anyone who was singing on stage for the first time was so well supported by the other members - thank you for being there for each other when any little nerves or doubts started to surface. 🥰
As our wonderful and proud choir Director, Lyn, said in her email to members, “Thank you to those who couldn't be there but sent us good vibes - we felt them!”

    An Afternoon with Marcia Hines
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: UNISONg COMMUNITY WOMEN’S CHOIR MET MARCIA HINES! 🥰🎶🎵
A huge thank you to the choir members who were able to come and spend a special afternoon with Marcia Hines. Although singing for well-being rather than ‘performance’ is the focus of UNISONg, you all put your best voices on and the joy of singing in a group absolutely shone through when we sang for Marcia and her backing singers, Ron and Chris!

Riverina Conservatorium of Music kindly provided us with an amazing room to use and we sang three songs, ‘Lift My Sister Up’, ‘Swing Song’ and ‘I’ve Got the Music in Me’…who knew Marcia would actually sing her version of ‘I’ve got the music in me’ at her concert! 🥰 (and a fab Reggae version of ‘Lean on Me’!).

A BIG thank you to Wagga Women's Health Centre Inc. for helping make our dream of singing for Marcia actually happen and for organising our new shirts (which arrived just in time too!).
A very memorable afternoon spent with an amazing woman who was so generous with her time and with her words.
    👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
